Kellogg Company to Add Manufacturing Capacity in Belleville Date: October 27, 2006
Friday October 27 2006 – CITY OF BELLEVILLE, ON − Kellogg Company broke ground today on its new cereal production facility in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. The Belleville facility will be the company’s second manufacturing operation in Canada and is part of the company’s ongoing plan for capital investments.

“Growing our cereal business is one of Kellogg’s core strategies and we’ve delivered six years of growth in our North American ready-to-eat cereal business,” said Jeff Montie, president, Kellogg North America. “The growth we’ve delivered has led to a need for more capacity to effectively meet current and future consumer demand.”

After a thorough review of its manufacturing network and investigating several internal expansion options, the company determined the most effective approach was to add capacity via a new manufacturing facility.

“The Belleville site was the right choice for a number of reasons including convenient transportation routes, total cost to manufacture and the support being provided by the city of Belleville, Bay of Quinte region and province of Ontario,” Montie added. “We’d like to thank the city, region and province for their cooperative spirit and outstanding partnership with Kellogg.”

Joining Mr. Montie for the ground breaking ceremony were: The Honourable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario; The Honourable Sandra Pupatello, Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Trade; The Honourable Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; and Her Worship Mary-Anne Sills, Mayor of Belleville.

“I often say that Ontario’s greatest strength is its highly skilled and educated workforce,” said Premier Dalton McGuinty. “By choosing to locate in Belleville, Kellogg is expressing that same confidence in our people and I’m sure that both the company and this community will benefit tremendously as a result.”
“This is an investment in our skilled workforce and our economy,” said Economic Development and Trade Minister Sandra Pupatello. “It’s great news for Belleville area families. We’re pleased to partner with Kellogg to bring more opportunity and high value jobs to Ontario.”

“This is tremendous news for Ontario and our provincial food processing industry,” said Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Leona Dombrowsky. “By taking this step, Kellogg has shown that Ontario is an excellent place for companies to invest.”

“In the words of Tony the Tiger − it’s ‘G-R-R-EAT’ that Kellogg Company has chosen to locate their new facility in the City of Belleville, and I am excited about the employment opportunities this will bring to the entire Quinte area,” said her Worship Mayor Mary-Anne Sills. “I extend a warm welcome to the ‘Friendly City’ and look forward to working with our valued and newest corporate citizen.”

Kellogg anticipates the new facility will be operational in the third quarter of 2007.
